How did you get involved in Roller Derby?
LOL! I was a medic at a bout many moons ago, a friend asked me to help her out with an event, and I said “sure, as long as my boyfriend and his friend can have tickets”. The first whistle went and I was like…. What the HECK is this thing? By jam 3 I was hooked and by half time I was going to sign up!

Proudest moment as a Derby Athlete so far? Being selected to play in the MVP game in our Mexico tournament in November 2021. I was just so honoured – played with a torn ACL and all.

Why I need your support:
I’d never considered myself a ‘sportswoman.’ As one who has never been particularly good at sports, and who has never felt that there was a space to be strong, athletic and celebrated for my athletic capabilities, roller derby changed my life.

Roller derby has been the most humbling thing I have ever done. It has taught me to love myself, my journey, and my body. I have started cross training (can you imagine that) and strengthening myself for a sport that has empowered me to be a better version of myself. One of the best things about derby, is sharing parts of this with other skaters, and helping them find their place in sports.

To skate at the Roller Derby World Cup, after two ACL replacements and 8 odd years of skating is the most incredible moment of my derby career. Please help me go live a real life dream, to go and stamp my wheels on a track for my country, to learn and grow so I can come back and help build South African Roller Derby and empower more people!
