How did you get involved in Roller Derby?
Remember way back when Facebook had that weirdly stalkery running sidebar of all your Friends’ online activities? I noticed that one of my social media friends had ‘liked’ Cape Town Rollergirls. I immediately tracked them down, and joined in 2011. After a hiatus of a few years due to various Life-Related Things, I finally found myself back in a city with a roller derby league. I joined Golden City Rollers in 2022, and threw myself back into derby with a fire and commitment that mid-20s Lily could never have imagined.
Proudest moment as a Derby Athlete so far? Being selected for Team South Africa!

Why I need your support:
I’m here for the non-athletes. The perpetually slow. The chronically unfit. The ‘would rather eat glass than exercise’ crowd. That was me, all the way up to my late 30s. Then I rediscovered roller derby, and my whole world changed. Suddenly, I found myself wanting to get fit, wanting to Lift Heavy Things and Put Them Down Again. Heck, even wanting to _run_. I left Lily behind. I became Dolly Spartan, international fricken athlete.
Roller derby changed everything. It’s made me work harder than I’ve ever worked before. It’s made me fitter, stronger, and faster than I’ve ever been. It’s turned me from a sedentary potato into a WORLD CUP athlete. This is the most bonkersbananasunreal thing that’s ever happened to me. I still can’t really wrap my head around it.
Help me represent the lifelong sedentary potato people who never realised their potential. Help me show how much change is possible when you find something you love. Help me skate at the Roller Derby World Cup.
